Sulakauri Publishing reported through social media that ‘Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry’, a revered novel by Tamta Melashvili, has been awarded Poland’s Best Book of the Year.
The novel follows Etero, a middle-aged woman living in rural Georgia, who experiences a personal transformation after a near-death episode, leading her to defy society’s norms and embrace a newfound freedom.
The story, told through an introspective stream-of-consciousness narrative, was later adapted into a film by Elene Naveriani, which premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to international acclaim.
The book was translated into Polish by Magda Novakovska.
