The price of sugar on the world market has increased by 25% compared to 2020, bm.ge reports.
Sugar is also expensive in the local food network. As bm.ge info reports, based on Geostat data, the prices of sugar in the trade networks of Georgia in March 2021 will exceed 2020’s prices by 30.1%.
International sugar prices were even higher in January-February 2021 and cost $450-460 per ton. Accordingly, despite the increase in prices on an annual basis, the price of sugar in the international market in March-April decreased compared to January-February.
In 2020, Georgia purchased 143,207 tons of sugar worth $51.3 million. Accordingly, the average cost of imported sugar in Georgia last year was $358, bm.ge writes.
