Speaker: After 60 days, organizations receiving foreign funding will be required to register

The statement of the organizations regarding the disobedience of the law on “transparency of foreign influence” is undemocratic behavior, which is against the spirit of the rule of law and their own declared principles. The law is accepted and everyone knows what to do! Everyone knows what the consequences will be if there is no declaration – stated the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, with whose signature the law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” will come into effect.

Papuashvili explained the process and procedures related to the implementation of the law. He claimed that the law “On transparency of foreign influence” will be published in the “Legislative Gazette” and will be considered published from tomorrow.

He noted that within 60 days from June 4, the Ministry of Justice will develop subordinate normative acts, as well as create an electronic portal for non-governmental and media organizations. After 60 days, organizations receiving foreign funding will be required to register, at which time they will have to declare their income in 2023.

“When non-governmental organizations are reported to have disobeyed the law, if they don’t like the text of the law, why don’t they commit themselves to the people to be voluntarily, proactively transparent? Why don’t they accept this commitment? This shows that they don’t have a problem with the law, but they have a problem with people getting to know their finances. It will become known where the foreign funding goes, which we will learn inside and out, that it is spent on radicalism, it is spent, among others, on such organizations that have recently been engaged in terror and threats. It is unfortunate that today foreign funding is associated with such organizations.

“I call on everyone to follow the norms and spirit of the law and act in accordance with the law,” Papuashvili said.
