The Culture Committee of the Georgian parliament has approved draft legislation on the establishment and management of the Tsiv-Gombori protected areas system.

The draft law was presented by Deputy Environment and Agriculture Minister Zurab Ezugbaia.

Under the proposed legislation, the Tsiv-Gombori National Park would cover 21,761 hectares across the municipalities of Sagarejo, Gurjaani and Telavi.

The draft also provides for the creation of the Signagi Strict Nature Reserve on 554 hectares and the Tsiv-Gombori Protected Landscape spanning 17,562 hectares.

The area is notable not only for its natural ecosystems but also for its concentration of cultural heritage monuments, and protected status would support their preservation, Ezugbaia said.

The Agency of Protected Areas would manage the national park and strict nature reserve, while the protected landscape would fall under the authority of Gurjaani Municipality.

The committee also approved legislation related to the Riyadh Design Law Treaty, presented by Parliamentary Secretary of the Government Vakhtang Bachiashvili.

Bachiashvili said the treaty, adopted by the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2024, aims to simplify international procedures for protecting designs, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses.

He stated that Georgia’s accession to the treaty would strengthen intellectual property protections and support Georgian designers entering international markets.
