Michael Alexander Gloss, a 21-year-old American and son of CIA Deputy Director for Digital Innovation Juliane Gallina Gloss, was killed in April 2024 while fighting for Russian forces in Ukraine. Reports indicate that he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense in September 2023 and was deployed to assault units operating near Soledar in Donetsk Oblast. Gloss was killed on April 4, 2024, though the exact circumstances of his death remain unclear.
Prior to joining the Russian military, Gloss had been traveling internationally after leaving the College of the Atlantic in Maine, where he studied human ecology. Friends described him as an environmental activist and anti-fascist who expressed criticism toward the United States.
His family confirmed his death in an obituary, referring to his “noble heart and warrior spirit,” but did not mention his service in the Russian army.
Juliane Gallina Gloss, his mother, has served in the CIA for over six years and was appointed Deputy Director for Digital Innovation in February 2024.
