Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with top EU officials such as Antonio Costa, European Council President, Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President, and Marta Cos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, in Brussels, on December 10 and 11.
“Maia Sandu is fighting with her heart and soul for Moldova’s European future. We are fully by your side,” Ursula von der Leyen said, expressing her support for Sandu’s efforts, with the EU pledging EUR 50 million to support the country’s reforms and stability and help its integration with the union.
While Marta Cos emphasized Sandu’s progress, “Fighting undemocratic forces with democratic means is a titanic effort! EU integration will help secure peace, freedom, and prosperity for Moldovan people.”
Von der Leyen highlighted that the EU is committed to addressing Moldova’s justice system issues and giving an additional EUR 10 million for properly assessing judges and prosecutors.
