The Fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, will address the crowd gathered on Rustaveli Avenue today at 21:00.
On May 26, in Tbilisi, a number of events and marches will be held to mark Georgia’s Independence Day, organized by Salome Zurabishvili, opposition parties, and civil society groups.
The main area for the events will stretch from the Rustaveli Theater to the Palace of Youth and Children.
Marches from several locations are also planned throughout the day.
At 16:00, a march representing the cultural sector will begin from the Philharmonic. Representatives of the cultural field will present an “Artistic Manifesto” in a unified march from the Philharmonic to the Parliament.
At 20:00, in front of the First Gymnasium on Rustaveli, students from 10 different university movements will talk about their plans on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day. From 17:00, an exhibition space will also open.
“To mark Georgia’s Independence, Rustaveli Avenue will host the tireless society fighting for Georgia’s freedom throughout the day. Events will take place from morning, dedicated to our past, present, and future.
Our independence is still being challenged by the Russian Empire, which once destroyed the First Republic and erased the history of heroes who fought for freedom. Today, the puppet government of Russian Ivanishvili continues to try to devalue the efforts of Georgia’s heroes, to neutralize the country, isolate it, and leave us face-to-face with Russia, without allies.
But the Georgian people continue their fight for freedom and independence with perseverance and dedication.
On May 26, Georgia’s national memory will come alive on Rustaveli Avenue, and following in the footsteps of our heroic ancestors, voices will be heard loud and clear — voices that today defend the homeland through daily resistance: on Rustaveli, from prisons, from emigration, from international platforms, and from every possible place where resistance is alive!
And on the 180th day of continuous protest,
The united Georgian society
Will once again firmly show both enemies and friends:
That we defended and will always defend Georgia!
We defended — and we will defend again!
Until the very end!” — reads the information shared by the organizers on social media.
