Russia’s latest wave of aerial attacks on Ukraine overnight into June 22 left multiple civilians dead and injured, including children, while causing widespread destruction and fires in several regions.
A Russian drone strike targeted the northeastern Sumy region, where an attack on a family home in the Shostka district killed a 13-year-old boy, his 36-year-old father, and his 73-year-old grandmother, as reported by the regional prosecutor’s office. Three other family members were injured, including two children.
In the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, one person was killed and three others were wounded after a Russian drone struck a private residence in the city of Zaporizhzhia. Among the injured was an 11-year-old boy, regional authorities said.
Further attacks were reported in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where Russian strikes damaged and set fire to several private and apartment buildings, a shop, and infrastructure facilities in the districts of Nikopol, Kryvyi Rih, Synelnykove, and Pavlohrad. Two civilians were injured, one of whom remains in serious condition.
In the Odesa region, a Russian ballistic missile strike targeted an agricultural enterprise overnight on June 21. Regional officials said one person was killed and three others were injured in the attack, which destroyed a warehouse and set vehicles on fire. The strike was reportedly carried out using an Iskander ballistic missile.
Ukrainian Air Force announced that Russian forces launched one Iskander ballistic missile and 88 drones against Ukraine beginning on the night of June 21. By 8:30 a.m. local time on June 22, Ukrainian air defenses had confirmed the interception of 79 drones. Authorities also reported direct impacts from the missile and five drones at six separate locations.
The latest attacks come as Russia continues its campaign of long-range missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, despite ongoing international calls for a ceasefire and renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war.
