The National Statistics Service of Georgia (Geostat) released data showing that in 2024, 3,587 people were granted Georgian citizenship, while 1,592 individuals lost it
Russian nationals made up the majority of new citizens, with 2,361 people from the Russian Federation receiving Georgian citizenship. Germany and Ukraine followed, with 251 and 175 new Georgian citizens respectively. Information on how many citizens from Iran and the Islamic Republic received Georgian citizenship remains classified.
Geostat also outlined that the Russian Federation ranked first among the countries whose citizenship led to revocation of Georgian status. A total of 802 Georgians lost their citizenship after acquiring Russian nationality. Greece came second, with 200 Georgians obtaining Greek citizenship and consequently having their Georgian status canceled.
