Public Funeral of Helicopter Crash Victims at Sameba Cathedral

The public funeral of the rescuers and medics who died in the helicopter crash near Gudauri is ongoing at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.

The ceremony will last until 14:00, after which,the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced, the helicopter crash victims will be buried with a full military honor at family cemeteries in different regions of Georgia.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, members of government, MPs, and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze attended the funeral at the Cathedral.

A border police helicopter on a rescue operation in Gudauri crashed on July 29, killing eight people. July 30 was declared a day of mourning in Georgia.
