The Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a bail of 20,000 GEL for former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili, who has been charged with failing to comply with a request from the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Georgian Parliament.
Prosecutor Natia Tatiashvili announced the bail request ahead of the court session, where the issue of imposing a preventive measure on Okruashvili will be discussed.
Okruashvili was summoned by the Parliamentary Commission on March 26 to provide an explanation but refused to appear. He was later ordered to testify before the Tbilisi City Court, where he responded to questions from the investigative agency in the presence of a magistrate judge.
Okruashvili has been charged under Article 349 of the Georgian Criminal Code, which concerns the failure to comply with the request of a Temporary Investigative Commission of Parliament. The offense is punishable by a fine, up to one year of imprisonment, or restriction from holding public office or engaging in certain activities for up to three years.
