Georgia’s President Mikheil Kavelashvili will attend the funeral ceremony of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the President’s Administration has confirmed.
“President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, together with the leaders of regional countries, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and others, will attend the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran,” the administration said.
Iran’s WANA News agency reported that the late leader’s body will be transferred to four cities in Iraq following ceremonies in Tehran and Qom. It will then be returned to Iran and buried in Mashhad.
Under the official schedule, a public farewell ceremony will begin at 6:00 a.m. on July 4 at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla and continue until 8:00 p.m. on July 5. Funeral prayers are scheduled for the morning of July 5. Following ceremonies in Tehran, Qom and Iraq, Khamenei will be laid to rest in the city of Mashhad on Thursday, July 9.
