Pope Leo XIV has congratulated Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day.
The information and the contents of the congratulatory message were released by the presidential administration.
In his letter, Pope Leo XIV extended his wishes for the prosperity of Georgia and unity among its people.
“On the occasion of your National Day, I send Your Excellency my heartfelt wishes for the prosperity of your country and unity of hearts,” the Pope wrote.
He also said he prays that Georgian citizens continue to find renewed inspiration in serving the common good of the nation.
“I pray to the Lord that your fellow citizens may continue to find ever new inspiration in the path of serving the common good of the nation. May they remain peacemakers, sensitive to the cry of the poor and creative in charity to alleviate their suffering,” the letter reads.
Pope Leo XIV also invoked the intercession of Saint Nino, praying for peace and security for the Georgian people.
“May Almighty God, through the intercession of Saint Nino, grant Georgians the blessing of living in safety and peace,” the Pope stated, extending divine blessings to the president, public officials and the Georgian people.
Georgia celebrates Independence Day on May 26, commemorating the adoption of the Act of Independence in 1918, when the country declared the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Following the restoration of independence in 1991 after Soviet rule, May 26 regained its status as the country’s national Independence Day.
