PM: Large-scale Public Employment Program to be Launched for the Socially Vulnerable

From March 1, a large-scale public employment program will be launched for people receiving social benefits, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced at today’s government session.

He noted that the government will announce vacancies for 50,000 jobs in the first stage.

According to the Prime Minister, public jobs are being created especially for the target groups, and include work that can be performed by a person with any qualification.

Employment is available to persons receiving social assistance from the age of 18 until retirement age who do not have disability status or serious health problems.

According to Garibashvili, a total of 200,000 people will be employed under the program, but at the first stage, vacancies will be announced in 50,000 places.

Vacancies, he said, will be announced by municipalities, agriculture and environment and other ministries.

“Up to 200,000 out of 600,000 socially vulnerable citizens are able to work. They are absolutely demotivated to be employed legally. We, of course, have to help the socially vulnerable elderly, children, people with disabilities, everyone who needs it, but people who are capable of working need no allowance, but employment and self-realization. These citizens need to engage in the economic process for the well-being of each family, for the development of the country.

“To this end, we will start this process on March 1 and launch an active employment policy,” said Garibashvili.
