The Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) has approved a draft resolution on Georgia, expressing concern over the country’s democratic and human rights situation.
Based on the draft resolution, the Assembly expresses concern over Georgia’s 2024 parliamentary elections and also addresses the 2025 local elections, highlighting their importance for the country’s democratic development.
The document also condemns the adoption of what it describes as restrictive legislation, including the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence and amendments to the Law on Assemblies and Demonstrations.
In addition, the draft resolution condemns what it describes as the arbitrary detention and harassment of opposition politicians, media representatives, and peaceful demonstrators who support Georgia’s democratic and European future.
The draft resolution is expected to be considered by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly during its annual session before a final vote.
