The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has announced the detention of eight additional individuals in connection with the October 4 events in Tbilisi, bringing the total number of detainees to 44, while four persons remain in hiding.
Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze provided the update during a briefing at the MIA, stating that law enforcement continues to identify and prosecute those involved in unlawful and violent actions during the demonstration on Atoneli Street, near the Presidential Palace.
“Despite numerous public appeals issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the participants of the demonstration on October 4, the defendants committed unlawful and violent acts. Video materials and media footage clearly show some of them verbally and physically assaulting law enforcement officers and throwing stones and heavy objects at police. They also attempted to break into the Presidential Palace and damaged the surrounding fences,” Darakhvelidze said.
The ministry says the investigation continues under Articles 187, 222, 225, and 317 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, covering charges related to property damage, group violence, organization of unrest, and attacks on police officers.
Meanwhile, the Tbilisi City Court has ordered pre-trial detention for six individuals detained in connection with the same case — Gocha Katashvili, Saba Kordzaia, Sulkhan Abralava, Beka Kelekhsashvili, Giorgi Kiknavelidze, and Nana Sander. The ruling was issued by Judge Pikria Sikturishvili.
Authorities emphasize that the investigation remains ongoing, and more arrests may follow as police continue to review surveillance footage and witness testimonies.
“We will periodically provide the public with updates on this case,” Deputy Minister Darakhvelidze noted.
The October 4 unrest near the Presidential Palace has become one of the most high-profile incidents in recent months, drawing significant public and political attention as the number of detainees continues to rise.
