Melia’s Letter from Prison: ‘Freedom is Not for Sale, We Must Take It’

“Freedom is not for sale, We must take it,” – UNM Chairman Nika Melia

Nika Melia, the leader of the United National Movement, who has been in prison for several days, has sent a letter from prison to address the citizens gathered in front of the parliament building.

“Welcome, and I’m glad that you are there, I’m glad that you do not give up! We will fight together and win together. Our goal is not the victory of one person: our goal is the victory of Georgia.

“Our goal is a developed Georgia, where free and successful people fight. Sometimes in life, there are moments when a person is tired and frustrated, but even now in these four walls I feel that every new difficulty, every new obstacle, every new challenge adds more strength, more attitude,” Melia says in his letter.

The leader of the party notes that on June 20, 2019, and February 23, 2021, he stood peacefully with the people and defended the idea of Georgia, dignity, freedom, from  Gavrilovs, Lavrovs, and their obedient persons.

“Because of the love and dignity of the homeland, I was deprived of my freedom and told to buy the same freedom back for 40,000 GEL. Freedom is not for sale, we must take freedom. Today, the four walls of a cell are the way to fight for freedom. Freedom does not cost 40,000 GEL for each of us. It is not a struggle of any group of people, let alone a party. We, the citizens of Georgia, regardless of our political or other views, fight together for the highest values, freedom, dignity, and justice,” Melia writes.

The leader of the party notes that he feels confident that despite being in prison, he is free.

“Our future is much better, we will not give up and we will not be scared until we reach this goal. Be strong, good, strong, Gavrilov night will definitely dawn, and Georgia will definitely win, we will win,” says Melia.
