The Latvian Foreign Ministry has condemned the October 4 elections in Georgia, declaring that a vote held amid the detention of opposition leaders, persecution of independent media and civil society, and without OSCE/ODIHR international observation “can neither be called free nor democratic.”
In its statement, the ministry called on Georgian authorities to release all individuals who have been arbitrarily detained. It also urged calm, restraint, and an inclusive dialogue with citizens.
“Georgian authorities have to free all those arbitrarily detained. We call for calm and restraint and urge Georgian Dream to pursue inclusive dialogue with the citizens of Georgia,” the statement reads.
