Tbilisi City Court has imposed a preventive measure of 30,000 GEL bail on Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Ahali party, in connection with the ongoing sabotage case.
In addition to bail, the court ordered the confiscation of Gvaramia’s passport and identification card.
Gvaramia is among several opposition figures facing charges in the same case. Earlier, Giorgi Vashadze and Zurab Japaridze were also granted bail of 30,000 GEL each as a preventive measure. Meanwhile, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze were ordered to post bail of 1 million GEL each.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has launched criminal proceedings against a number of political figures, including former President Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nikanor Melia, Zurab Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze.
They face charges of sabotage, aiding and abetting a foreign state in hostile activities, financing actions directed against Georgia’s constitutional order and national security, and inciting the violent overthrow of Georgia’s constitutional order or government.
The defendants have publicly denied the accusations, describing the case as politically motivated. Further court proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
