“Despite the decision of the Lukashenko regime to suspend its participation in the Eastern Partnership, we are ready to continue to work with the people of Belarus to strengthen ties, develop regional cooperation and address common challenges,” said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
He said the EU had imposed sanctions on Belarus for violating fundamental rights and carrying out violent repressions.
“EU imposed sanctions for violations of fundamental rights, democracy & violent repression. We reject the Lukashenko dictatorship’s retaliatory actions that have no legality nor reason. EU stands by the people of Belarus who deserve better than what they are being subjected to,” he wrote.
