January 14 is observed as the National Flag Day of Georgia, honoring one of the country’s most important state symbols—the Georgian national flag.
To mark the occasion, traditional flag-raising ceremonies were held across the country. Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that Georgian flags were solemnly raised in various units of the Ministry as a sign of respect for the national symbol.
At the same time, military personnel of the Defense Forces of Georgia conducted ceremonial flag-raising events, during which the national flag was raised against the backdrop of the Georgian national anthem. The Ministry of Defense reported that official ceremonies took place both on the territory of the Ministry of Defense and at military bases of the Defense Forces nationwide.
National Flag Day is established by the Organic Law of Georgia, which formally defines January 14 as the day dedicated to the Georgian flag. The current five-cross flag, restored as the state flag in 2004, symbolizes Georgia’s historical continuity, sovereignty, and national unity.
Each year, National Flag Day serves as a reminder of the country’s statehood, independence, and the values represented by the Georgian flag.
