Nika Gvaramia, leader of the “Coalition for Change,” said that British sanctions have proven to be the most effective and stressed the importance of their continuation, following a meeting between opposition alliance leaders and the British Ambassador.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Gvaramia underlined the alliance’s strategy, which he described as a combination of internal protest, external pressure, and political alternative.
“The United Kingdom is particularly noteworthy in that its sanctions have proven to be the most effective—therefore, continuing this is very important. The alliance has stated: protest inside, sanctions outside, and offering an alternative,” Gvaramia said.
He added that the meeting with the ambassador had been productive and aligned with the alliance’s broader vision for political change in the country.
“We have our own vision of how the government should be changed—this is not only protest, although it is unquestionably also protest—and how we should continue moving the country forward after this government is no longer in power,” he noted.
Gvaramia claimed that Georgia is currently experiencing regression rather than progress.
“Right now, the country is not moving forward; it is not even standing still—it is moving backwards every day,” he said.
Earlier today, leaders of the opposition alliance held a meeting with the British Ambassador, during which they discussed the political situation in Georgia and the role of international support.
