The average monthly nominal salary in Georgia increased by 8.9% (193.7 GEL) in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year and reached 2,363.8 GEL, the National Statistics Service of Georgia (Geostat) says.
Geostat data shows the highest salaries by economic activity were recorded in financial and insurance activities at 5,952.5 GEL, followed by information and communication at 4,290.7 GEL, mining and quarrying at 3,230.4 GEL, and professional, scientific and technical activities at 3,186 GEL.
In the same period, the average salary for women stood at 1,901.8 GEL, while men earned 2,836 GEL. Annual salary growth amounted to 157.7 GEL (9%) for women and 234.7 GEL (9%) for men. Men’s salaries exceeded women’s in all sectors.
Average monthly pay in the business sector rose by 7.7% to 2,335.9 GEL, Geostat data shows. The highest salaries in this segment were recorded in information and communication at 4,358.6 GEL and professional, scientific and technical activities at 3,632.7 GEL.
In the non-business and financial sector, average monthly salaries increased by 11.2% to 2,413.7 GEL. Financial and insurance activities remained among the highest-paying fields in this category.
However, economists say the average figure is methodologically limited and does not reflect the real income distribution, which has led to public dissatisfaction. They argue that the median salary provides a more accurate picture of earnings, as it reflects the level received by most employees, unlike the arithmetic average. The median salary in Georgia is estimated at around 900–1,000 GEL.
While average salaries continue to rise annually, economists note that the mean figure does not fully reflect income distribution.
