10 detained near Tbilisi City Assembly over “offensive banners”

The Georgian Interior Ministry says 10 people were detained during a protest outside the Tbilisi City Assembly for displaying what it described as “offensive banners.”

Ministry says the demonstrators also used offensive language, disrupted public order and resisted police officers.

“Officers of the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 10 individuals near the Tbilisi City Assembly for displaying offensive banners in a public space. They also uttered offensive remarks, violated public order and resisted law enforcement officers,” the ministry said in a statement.

The detainees were charged under Articles 166 and 173 of Georgia’s Code of Administrative Offences, which concern petty hooliganism and disobedience to a lawful police order.
