The former Georgian Parliament building in Kutaisi has reopened as the country’s largest technology hub, bringing together startup support, science, education and innovation under one roof.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili officially opened the Innovation and Technology Agency’s new Technohub.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kvrivishvili said the project reflects the government’s goal of building an economy driven by innovation, technology and highly paid jobs.
“Artificial intelligence, digital technologies and the data-driven economy determine the competitiveness of countries and industries,” the Economy Minister said. “Georgia’s choice is clear – to be not only a user of new technologies, but also a country where knowledge is created, new ideas are born and competitive technology businesses develop.”
The minister said the hub will bring together science, education, research, technological entrepreneurship and innovation in one space. It will include technology laboratories, startup facilities, an interactive science and technology museum, an artificial intelligence computing center and a TUMO creative technologies education center for school students.
Kvrivishvili said the project is particularly significant for Kutaisi, which has increasingly become a center for education and innovation thanks to Kutaisi International University and the city’s international airport.
The new facility will also house Georgia’s largest technopark, hosting startup incubators, pre-accelerator programs, hackathons, innovation camps, technology weeks, workshops and training programs throughout the year.
Representatives of the government and private sector attended the opening ceremony.
