Georgian PM, President of Azerbaijan Discuss Strategic Partnership

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, is paying an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan. The first meeting of the official visit was held with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, which took place in the Zagulba Presidential Palace in Baku.

The governmental administration reports that the sides focused on the strategic partnership and friendly relations between the two countries and highlighted the successful projects of regional importance implemented through joint efforts.

“Mr. Prime Minister, welcome. We are very pleased to see you. I am confident that the visit will be very successful and will strengthen our brotherly relationship from the historical foundations of our nations. Our brotherly relationship has lasted for centuries. We consider it a good foundation for our relationship, which is characterized by dynamism and covers many areas.

“We are very happy due to your visit. I wish you health. I know you were infected with the coronavirus and we had to postpone the visit. I’m glad you recovered soon.

“We have a very good history of implementing joint projects, including in the fields of energy and transport. These projects have changed the political, economic and transport situation in the region.

“Without strong partnerships between our countries, these projects would not have been possible.

“The last day of last year coincided with the last day of the implementation of the Southern Gas Pipeline project, which is of great importance not only for the development of the Caucasus but also for the wider region, for stability, predictability and cooperation. Without our cooperation, all this would have been impossible.

“We thank the Government of Georgia for its continued support in the implementation of projects. All these initiatives have written success stories in our history. I am sure it will continue in the future as well. I have just looked at some data and found out that Azerbaijan is still among the largest investors in the Georgian economy. This is a credit to the reforms implemented in the country, thus creating a positive and favorable investment climate. I know that many Azerbaijani companies want to work in your country and I hope that will happen.

“Today we will review the results achieved so far and plan future steps. Welcome to Azerbaijan once again and I wish you all the best,” said Ilham Aliyev.

The Head of the Government of Georgia thanked the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the hospitality and invited him to pay an official visit to Georgia at a convenient time.

“Thank you very much for the meeting, Mr. President! It is very nice to meet you again in Baku. It is true that we had to postpone the visit due to a coronavirus infection, but we are glad to be in Baku today.

“You have mentioned that we have a wonderful relationship and that this brotherhood has lasted for centuries. I would like to recall the words spoken by your father in Tbilisi, who said that our neighborhood was destined for us. The neighborhood of Georgian and Azerbaijani nations is our destiny. Thus, we are interconnected and interdependent.

“As you mentioned, we have implemented important and historical projects. Therefore, we intend to continue to carry out more projects together, which will further strengthen our relationship. Therefore, thank you again for receiving our official delegation to Baku. I want to take the opportunity and invite you to Tbilisi at a convenient time for you,” Irakli Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili is also going to meet the Primer Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, and a meeting is scheduled with Sahiba Gafarova, Deputy and Chairman of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.

The official delegation is accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Zalkaliani.
