Georgia’s Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, has met with Hans Kluge, Regional Director for Europe at the World Health Organization.
Georgia’s Ministry of Health says the meeting focused on avenues of cooperation between Georgia and the WHO Regional Office for Europe, as well as ongoing and planned reforms within the country’s healthcare sector.
The discussion addressed key healthcare priorities, including strengthening primary healthcare, advancing the universal health coverage program, improving access to medicines, addressing the needs of people living with rare diseases, and enhancing regional cooperation strategies.
During the meeting, Hans Kluge praised the reforms underway in Georgia’s healthcare system, emphasizing the importance of strengthening primary healthcare.
“Strengthening primary healthcare and the ongoing changes are making a significant contribution to providing quality services to the population and ensuring the sustainable development of the system,” Kluge said.
The sides also emphasized the importance of partnership with the World Health Organization and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in the future.
Also attending the meeting were Zaza Lominadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Social Issues, and Aleksandre Maisuradze, Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva and other international organizations.
