Georgia is hosting a regional meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Tbilisi, bringing together representatives from 22 countries, including Georgia, to discuss nuclear and radiation safety and emergency preparedness.
Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture says the meeting aims to promote the exchange of experience among participating countries, discuss practical approaches and deepen regional cooperation in the field of emergency preparedness and response.
A representative of Georgia’s Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency said the discussions are expected to strengthen participating countries’ capabilities to effectively prepare for and respond to emergency situations.
The event is being led by IAEA experts, who are introducing participants to international standards and practical mechanisms for emergency management.
Topics under discussion include risk assessment, emergency response plans and procedures, public protection measures, monitoring systems, and effective communication with the public during emergency situations.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture said the regional meeting provides an important platform for sharing expertise, technical knowledge and best practices, helping strengthen safety systems and improve response capabilities across the region.
IAEA regional meetings are held regularly and are aimed at enhancing cooperation among member states, while facilitating the exchange of knowledge and practical experience. Host countries are selected based on agreements among participating states and the agency’s priorities, allowing different nations to host the initiative.
“These meetings represent an important platform for strengthening professional expertise, technical experience and regional cooperation,” the ministry said.
