EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the European Union is considering additional steps regarding Georgia.

Speaking to journalists in Brussels ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Kallas said the situation surrounding Georgia is becoming increasingly concerning.

“We will discuss the issue of Georgia. Of course, the situation is becoming more and more serious,” she said.

Kallas noted that visa restrictions for Georgian diplomats have been in force since March 6 but EU officials are now considering whether further measures should be introduced.

“Since March 6, the visa restriction for diplomats has been implemented, but we are discussing what else we can do,” she said.

Kallas further stated that the discussions reflect concerns within the European Union about the direction of the Georgian government.

“The Georgian government is definitely not moving in the right direction,” she added.

EU foreign ministers are expected to review the situation and consider potential next steps during their meeting in Brussels.
