Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani visits the Athens Piraeus Deepwater Port and holds talks with the port’s operator, COSCO Shipping.
Ioseliani says the Piraeus Port is a key hub for trade between Europe and Asia, noting that the visit helped the Georgian side better understand its operations and development model.
“We had a very important and fruitful meeting with COSCO Shipping, the managing company of the Piraeus Port in Athens. We heard from the company’s management about the development plans for the port, as well as the investments made since 2009,” Ioseliani says. “The Piraeus Port is a deep-water port and a very important link in Europe in terms of trade and connectivity between Europe and Asia, connecting European and Asian cargo.”

She adds that Georgia can draw parallels with the planned Anaklia Deep-Water Port.
“We can draw a parallel with the Anaklia Deep-Water Port, which is a very important strategic facility in the Black Sea for the development of trade between Europe and Asia and for serving cargo flows in this direction,” Ioseliani says.
The Deputy Minister says such exchanges are important for Georgia to study global logistics trends and support the future development of the Anaklia project.
Georgian Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic Levan Beridze also attends the meeting
