The ‘Protect Iliauni’ movement says GEL 2 million has been raised to support children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
In a Facebook post, the movement said the result exceeded expectations.
“It was unbelievable to even think about this amount of money, but the support and love for each other turned out to be stronger than anything else,” the post reads.
The ‘Let’s Fight Against DMD’ organization says patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who are on ventilators or have a severe accompanying genetic condition will receive a one-time payment of GEL 10,000 by June 10.
The organization also says that from June it will begin purchasing support equipment for children with Duchenne, including wheelchairs, beds, ventilators and adapted transport tailored to patients’ needs.
It is calling on all Duchenne patients in Georgia who require specific assistance to contact the group directly.
It added that its main demand from the state remains unchanged — the import of modern medicines for Duchenne treatment.
“Every day of delay is a step backward and is tantamount to a crime,” the organization said.
