The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, has released a statement marking the Day of Abkhazia.

“We celebrate the Day of Abkhazia on May 23 in our homeland.

I wholeheartedly congratulate entire Georgia, especially our Abkhaz brothers and sisters, on this day.

This yet another excellent tradition introduced with the blessing of His Holiness Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia symbolizes the unity of Georgians and Abkhazians. We are divided by the occupation line today, however, what unites us is a common history and culture, values, and aspiration for a better future for our children, igniting the belief that tomorrow is all about unity, peace, and friendship.

We do our best towards this end and I am confident that in the not so far future we will manage to unite again to start building a strong, developed, and European country together,” reads the PM’s statement.
