Chair of Diaspora: We have Powerful Diasporas in Other Nations that Represent Georgia with Dignity

As part of the official working visit to Portugal, the Speaker, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, and his accompanying parliamentary delegation met with the representatives of the Georgian diaspora in Lisbon.

The delegation members focused on the state’s attitude towards diaspora organizations and the programs implemented by the government of Georgia.

“We have extremely powerful diasporas in other nations that are not only able to support Georgia and one another but also are able to represent Georgia in those countries with dignity. We discussed during the meeting how crucial it is for both our state and these individuals to strengthen diaspora groups. Our strategy in this case, as well as that of the Patriarchate, is clear: we do everything we can to support young people who were born and raised in this country, helping them maintain their sense of national identity. We have several initiatives for the promotion of pertinent services overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries”, – the Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee noted.

The Parliamentary Delegation accompanying the Speaker is composed of MPs Levan Ioseliani, David Songulashvili, Beka Odisharia, Levan Karumidze, and Irma Zavradashvili, as well as the Chief of the Speaker’s Cabinet, Levan Makhashvili.
