A large quantity of ammunition and firearm-related equipment has been seized during a joint operation by the Revenue Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the Sarpi border checkpoint and the Poti Customs Clearance Zone.
The Revenue Service says customs officers at the Sarpi checkpoint found 50 rounds of live ammunition while inspecting the hand luggage of a passenger arriving from Türkiye.
In a separate case, officers discovered additional ammunition and firearm-related items during customs control at the Poti Customs Clearance Zone. A search of a vehicle belonging to a Georgian citizen, transported in an international shipping container, revealed 422 rounds of live ammunition, two pneumatic sporting firearms, more than 2,000 bullet cases, 848 cartridge projectiles, and 2.5 kilograms of gunpowder intended for firearm cartridges.
The investigation is being conducted by the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
