A new professional training program for beginner tourist guides has been launched in Batumi to strengthen region’s tourism sector through skills development and professional education.

Organized by the Adjara Tourism Department, the intensive three-month course brings together around 30 participants, providing them with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience required for guiding tours in the region.

The program covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Fundamentals and history of tourism development
  • Types of tourism in Georgia
  • Tour planning and excursion methodology
  • Guide profession and communication psychology
  • Georgian history and cultural heritage

Participants will also receive training in first aid as well as in-depth knowledge of Batumi’s urban development, architecture, tourist routes, landmarks, culture and gastronomy.

The course involves more than 55 trainers and combines classroom-based learning with field training sessions across the city’s tourist routes, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience.

Organizers stated that the initiative is designed to prepare qualified tour guides capable of delivering accurate, source-based information while meeting modern tourism standards. The program also supports individuals interested in entering the profession by equipping them with essential competencies and practical skills.

At the end of the training, participants will go through examinations, including execution of practical tours for invited tour operators. This final stage is intended to assess readiness for real-world guiding and facilitate integration into the tourism industry.
