The United States Embassy in Georgia has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II. His life and extraordinary service will not be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace,” the Embassy said in a statement.
Patriarch Ilia II passed away at the age of 93. A period of national mourning has been declared in Georgia following his death.
