Drone debris discovered in Russian-occupied Abkhazia after strike on power line

Fragments of a drone have been discovered in the eastern part of Georgia’s Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia, local media reported.

Outlet Ekho Kavkaza reports that the debris was found in the town of Ochamchire, near the Black Sea coast. The incident reportedly occurred after the drone struck a power line, damaging part of the local electricity infrastructure.

Local reports say the impact disrupted electricity supply in the area. A specialized technical team was dispatched to the site to assess the damage and repair the affected infrastructure.

Power supply in Ochamchire has since been restored, according to the same sources.

At this stage, there has been no official confirmation regarding the origin or type of the drone. Authorities in the breakaway region have not publicly provided further details about the incident, and it remains unclear under what circumstances the drone appeared over the territory.

The Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia, which declared independence from Georgia after the 1992–1993 war, remains internationally recognized as part of Georgia. Russia recognized the region’s independence following the 2008 Russia-Georgia war and maintains a military presence there.

Incidents involving unidentified drones and aerial objects have become increasingly common across the wider Black Sea and South Caucasus region in recent years, particularly amid ongoing military conflicts and heightened regional tensions.

Further details about the incident in Ochamchire have not yet been disclosed.
