Tskhinvali’s de facto MFA: Tbilisi must accept the existing reality

The de facto “foreign ministry” of occupied Tskhinvali has responded to recent comments by Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze regarding the decision to abolish the administrative body created on the territory of the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region.

Based on the statement, Georgia’s overall approach and rhetoric toward South Ossetia “have not changed significantly in recent years,” the de facto ministry said.

“Despite the somewhat conciliatory tone emanating from Tbilisi, we again note the use of destructive terminology and subjective narratives from the eras of Gamsakhurdia and Saakashvili, including accusations of ‘Russian occupation’.”

The de facto ministry also claims that the “current situation in Georgia is a manifestation of an acute internal political struggle,” and argues that accepting the existing geopolitical status quo would “contribute to stability and peaceful development in the region.”

“We once again call on the Georgian authorities to recognize the political reality created after August 2008 as reality,” the de facto ministry concluded.
