Georgia has implemented a new regular block train service between the Black Sea port city of Poti and the capital, Tbilisi- a significant upgrade to the country’s domestic freight infrastructure.

The new route, operating four times a week on a fixed schedule, is designed to make cargo transport more predictable and efficient. Trains will depart Poti at 21:30 and arrive in Tbilisi by 09:47 the next morning, providing consistent overnight service for container shipments.

Deputy Economy Minister Guram Guramishvili pointed out the importance of the initiative, saying it has a potential to strengthen Georgia’s internal logistics network, lower freight costs and improve operations at Poti Port.

The block train system is also expected to help road congestion, reduce carbon emissions and support Georgia’s strategic role as a transit hub along the Middle Corridor.
