Mzia Amaglobeli sentenced to 2 years in prison

Batumi City Court Judge Nino Sakhelashvili today reclassified the charges against Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of “Batumelebi.”

Specifically, she was convicted under Article 353^1 of the Criminal Code, which refers to resistance, threats, or violence against a public order officer or another representative of the authorities.

The judge sentenced Mzia Amaglobeli to 2 years of imprisonment.

Mzia Amaglobeli was arrested on January 11, 2025, under criminal procedure. She has been in pretrial detention for over 200 days.

The prosecution alleges that she slapped the head of Batumi Police, Irakli Dgebuadze, during a protest on January 11, in front of the Batumi Police Department.

Based on the investigation, Amaglobeli was initially detained for administrative reasons during the protest and released about two hours later. However, she was re-arrested minutes after her release following the alleged physical altercation with the police official.
