Estonian FM says political persecution must end in Georgia

“Jailing pro-European politicians only pushes Georgia further from its EU path. The political persecution must end,” wrote Margus Tsahkna, Estonian Foreign Minister, on the X Platform.

The Estonian FM urged the Georgian ruling party to release all prisoners immediately.

“Georgian authorities have once again turned to repression, arresting multiple opposition leaders in recent days.

“Jailing pro-European politicians only pushes Georgia further from its EU path. The political persecution must end. Georgian Dream must release all political prisoners now,” he said.

Over the past month, at least six high-profile opposition figures have been sentenced or detained for defying a parliamentary commission investigating the presidency of Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia’s exiled former leader. The opposition claims the commission serves as a political weapon designed to silence dissent.
