The Medical and Pharmaceutical Regulation Agency of Georgia has reviewed 11 cases of maternal death over the past four years, which led to disciplinary actions against multiple healthcare professionals.
Interpressnews obtained public records between 2021 and 2024, which revealed that the Professional Development Council investigated 11 maternal death cases, which resulted in six doctors having their medical licenses suspended for varying periods, one obstetrician-gynecologist having their certification entirely revoked, and another one receiving a formal written warning.
From 2021 to 2024, regulatory inspections uncovered multiple instances of unauthorized medical practice, leading to 123 administrative violations. Consequently, the legal measures went beyond individual warnings and disciplinary actions, and collective fines imposed for these offenses reached GEL 127,000.
