One of the main priorities of our government’s foreign policy is Georgia’s accession to the European Union, – the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated in his speech at the closing event of the Ambassadors’ Conference 2024.
As the Prime Minister noted, unfortunately, this topic is often used for speculation by specific international entities, however, despite all this, despite artificially created obstacles and contradictions, the country continues to move forward towards European integration.
“This was reflected in Georgia’s receipt of candidate status in December last year. Of course, the role of our diplomats in this success is also special. We will continue to fulfill all our obligations. As I have already noted, today we continue to fulfill the commitments under the Association Agenda, and by 2028 we will have fulfilled more than 90% of these commitments. As for the Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA), we plan to fulfill more than 90% of the obligations in four years, which is naturally an important factor in achieving success on the path of European integration.
“We, in the wider region, are a leader in terms of democratic and economic reforms, and this merit also needs appropriate appreciation. One of the manifestations of all this is that Georgia is distinguished by its rapid pace of economic growth. Georgia is the number one country not only in the wider region, but also in Europe, in terms of economic growth indicators, and one of our priorities will be to further accelerate economic growth, which is also one of the most important factors for Georgia’s accession to the European Union.
“To date, most of the obligations assumed under the Association Agreement have been fulfilled and work will continue actively in this direction. By 2030, Georgia will be the best prepared candidate country for achieving full membership in the European Union,” the Prime Minister noted.
