The eviction of the Balakhadze family from the apartment located on Zandukeli Street in Tbilisi has been postponed. The information about this was confirmed by the National Enforcement Bureau.
The Bureau said the parties have been given additional time to reach some type of agreement. Accordingly, the agency claims that the eviction process has been delayed for several months, although according to the legislation, the delay is no longer than six months.
Activists and relatives of the family are gathered at the site, who oppose the eviction. They are also protesting the pre-trial detention for Giorgi Khasaia and Akaki Chikobava, who were arrested during the eviction of the Khatiashvili family from Kekelidze N1 a few days ago.
Guja Balakhadze, who works as a courier, his 83-year-old mother, his 55-year-old brother, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia for 30 years, a pregnant daughter with his husband and Guja’s 5-year-old son live in the family.
Representatives of the “Voice” movement, the “Save Rioni Gorge” movement, miners from Chiatura, couriers, already evicted families and families waiting to be evicted are gathered on Zandukeli Street.
The Balakhadze family received a loan of 20,000 dollars from the microfinance organization “Rico Express”. Guja Balakhadze says that they did not take this amount at once. The reason was at different times, in 2015-2016, the health condition of family members and other unavoidable needs.
For the family, the house where Guja Balakhadze grew up is the only place to live and, as they say, they have nowhere to go. He claims that the microfinance organization auctioned the family home and the organization itself bought it for 17,000 GEL, while the real value of the house is about 100,000 US dollars. Guja Balakhadze says that the court gave the organization the right to do so, which ruled in favor of the organization in absentia.
