The Ministry of Internal Affairs border police coast guard and NATO ships are conducting joint naval training in the Black Sea, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
Island-class ships of the Border police coast guard department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs participated in the joint naval maneuvers – “Dioscuria” and “Ochamchire,” and the ships of NATO’s second permanent naval unit “REGINA MARIA” (Romania), “KEMALREIS” (Turkey) and “SMELI” (Bulgaria).
“The aim of the training is to increase the level of interoperability between the naval units of Georgia and the member and partner countries of the Alliance.
“In parallel with the coronavirus pandemic, the visit of NATO’s second permanent naval unit to Georgia is a clear message of support for our country,” the Ministry said. “It is important that NATO naval visits to Georgia’s Black Sea ports are regular, which is one of the tangible results of NATO-Georgia cooperation in strengthening Black Sea security.
The joint training is being carried out in full compliance with the recommendations of the National Center for Disease Control in Georgia,” the statement reads.
