A protesting miner in Chiatura has sewn his mouth shut. The strikers say he resorted to the extreme form of protest due to fruitless negotiations with the company’s management.
According to them, other miners may resort to this form of protest if the negotiations do not end with a positive result.
“An 11th miner started a hunger strike and sewed his mouth shut today. He is not the only one and maybe others will do the same. We are waiting for the mediator’s answer. The protest will not stop if the main demands are not met,” said miner Tariel Mikatsadze.
The miners in Chiatura are on strike for the 11th day. They demand an increase in salary and an improvement in working conditions. Some of the miners have been on hunger strike for several days.
