President: Process should be Moved to Negotiating Table to Find a Solution

“Rhetoric needs to be eased and the process should be moved to the negotiating table to find a solution,” Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said at a meeting with Christian Danielsson, Personal Representative of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, who is taking part in a political dialogue mediated by the European Union in Georgia.

The President noted she believes that Danielsson’s visit will be fruitful, and his experience will help the parties to overcome the current situation.

“The President welcomed the arrival of Christian Danielsson in Georgia and the support of the EU for negotiations and dialogue.

“The President provided Danielsson with comprehensive information on the elections in Georgia, the rights of the parties in the Parliament and the legislative instruments at their disposal.

“Danielsson noted that there is more readiness of the parties involved in the negotiations today to reach an agreement.

“The President pointed out that the process is moving in the right direction, although there are attempts to bring tension. Rhetoric needs to be eased and the process shifted to the negotiating table to find a solution.

“Danielsson noted that Georgia has always been an example of democracy and stability in the region, and this situation should not change, because it is in the national interest of the country.

“The meeting with the President was attended by the EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell and the Adviser to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel Magdalena Grono,” reads a statement issued by the Presidential Administration.

Today, Christian Danielsson met with President Salome Zurabishvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to discuss the current political situation in the country.
