The Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the Public Defender, Levan Ioseliani to deliberate on the aspects and format of cooperation of the two institutions, as well as the recommendations submitted in regard to the performance of 2022.
Papuashvili expressed his hope for productive cooperation to ensure that the human rights protection situation is more oriented toward improvement.
“It was our first meeting in this rank to discuss our cooperation format, and I am hopeful and absolutely positive about the collaboration between the Parliament and the Ombudsman. As all reconcile on one key aspect – it is the necessity of our productive cooperation. We consider the Public Defender as one of the key auxiliary instruments to the Parliament to ensure that the Parliament is comprehensively informed about human rights protection in Georgia and that our institution is capable of responding to the respective problems. On the other hand, cooperation with the Parliament is of no less importance for the Ombudsman since the Parliament equips this institution with a vast capacity to exercise all its approaches and recommendations with the consent of the Parliament. Thus, I believe our cooperation is to be very productive with the primary goal to improve the human rights protection state in the country,” the Speaker stated after the meeting.
