Georgia’s State Security Service said a Georgian citizen who was illegally detained near the occupied Tskhinvali region on December 5, 2025, has been released and is now in territory controlled by the central government.
The central government regularly raised the issue of the Georgian citizen’s unconditional release during the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings and the Geneva International Discussions.
The hotline mechanism and all relevant instruments available to the central government were used intensively. International partners were also actively involved in the negotiations.
The agency said that the central government, together with its international partners, continues to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens illegally detained in the occupied territories.
