Former Foreign Minister of Georgia Tamar Beruchashvili has been appointed Rector of the Diplomatic Academy.
Beruchashvili has held a number of senior government positions, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister, State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations.
She also served as Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom and Ambassador-at-Large for Black Sea Affairs.
Since 2022, Beruchashvili has been serving as Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Romania.
In a separate decree, the government approved the staffing structure of the Diplomatic Academy, authorizing the institution to employ 16 people under employment contracts.
The establishment of the Diplomatic Academy was initiated by the ruling Georgian Dream party. The party has argued that existing private and higher education institutions “cannot provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills in this area,” citing the need for a specialized institution focused on diplomacy.
